Did you know that the only way to get your vehicle

Did you know that the only way to get your vehicle across the lake (and back if you want to come home) is on one of the @millerboatline ferries?

I can’t tell you how excited I was to see that the official schedule started today when I was signing up my required certification classes for work. With an 8am boat I could sleep in my own bed and still make it to training at 9am in Port Clinton.

I also hear that one of the #millerferry fleet is celebrating their 40th birthday. Happy birthday to The Islander! We’re not riding on the birthday boat this morning as the Put in Bay is at the dock right now.

Have you ridden on a ferry boat? Was it the Miller? I love hearing about unconventional things that dictate one’s commute.

I get a lot of questions as a gas station manager on a island and this is a fun way to share things that make the station and my sanity hum along smoothly.

Some weeks it will be behind the scenes stuff but I’m sure you’ll also see lots of dance parties in the aisles too.

Let’s talk technique today. I love how there are so many different ways to accomplish tasks; take some as basic as how you hold your crochet hook and wrap your yarn.

If you’re a crocheter I would love for you to show me how you hold your hook; there’s no wrong way to hold it if you’re getting results. 🥰🥰

Welcome to the first installment of Meet Me at Wor

Welcome to the first installment of Meet Me at Work Mondays where I invite you to share a post, reel, or story about you at work. Whether you are showing some behind the scenes stuff, mundane tasks, or even something funny about work it will help us to get to know each other a bit better.

Running a gas station slash convenience store can be hella stressful at times and sharing snippets of it here with my pocket peeps helps me to manage the stress a bit better. Plus where else am I going to put all of these line dances I want to make in the aisle ways here?

Bonus this is a great thing for indie makers as you don’t always see all of the things that it takes to run an independent business.

How many times in life do people make assumptions about another person just by what they see & the setting they are in. Sadly far too many times and I wish I knew how to instill in people that they just shouldn’t do that now or ever.

Looking at me living a life on a resort island brings up all sort of assumptions; the biggest two being I must have big money and where I grew up.

I make a modest living based off of the mediocre monies I receive and as far as where I grew up; this Macklemore song really spoke to me. If you know you know. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The Heather Spins a Yarn crochet pattern library is growing this week. This still unnamed cowl is headed off to tech editing next week and I am so excited about it. I’m positively growing. 😂😂 Sorry I couldn’t help it 😂😂

This beautiful accessory will need some testers after it gets done with tech editing so if you have a 5.5mm hook, 400 yards of worsted weight yarn, and are for a few new stitches this one is for you.

Yarny details I used two skeins of Tupelo Honey @knittedwit worsted that I purchased with my own dollars at @for_ewe 💖 My sweater is thrifted & my accessories (my Apple Watch band & earrings) are both from @birdieparkerdesigns - I share because I care 💖💖

My daughter knows I’m a sucker for old buildings, good coffee & maker spaces so it was no surprise that I fell in love with @thecommongroundwhs when we visited there in February.

I didn’t take a lot of photos when we visited but I’m sure you can see by the ones I did get that we had a great time. There is a large common area with swings, games, and lots of areas to sit and people watch while you knit.

There are so many fun shops and since they just opened up there will be many more next time I visit. All of the vendors were so friendly and loved chatting with us.

They have monthly pop ups where there are over 100 vendors in the building and fun workshops. (Side note: a few of the vendors encouraged me to apply teach knitting and crochet workshops based on me taking my sock for a walk with us checking out the space.)

I made a few friends during my visit, as did my granddaughter, and made note of all of the places I want to check out next time I’m there and can drive my purchases back home instead of flying. (Hashtag Island in the winter life)

Sock tubes are something that I love creating as they are a pretty mindless project once you get them going.

I currently have two sock tubes going and thankfully I picked up an extra set of 000 @officialchiaogoo red lace needles so I no longer have to park my D20 sock in between Fridays.

This was a photo of my dice & sock before we started our session last week. It was an unprecedented week of color as each time we had to roll for color a ten was what appeared on the 20-sided die. Thirty one rounds of @passionknits_yarn is really a win for all 💖
